In-person individual therapy in Philadelphia | Virtual therapy across Pennsylvania & Massachusetts

I’m glad you’re here.

I know it can be exasperating to feel emotions that seem to be completely out of your control. You’re probably an introspective person and have tried everything to understand yourself, yet the same patterns remain: ruminating, people-pleasing, withdrawing from others. You try so hard to be “good” – at your job, at your relationships, even at your own personal growth and self-care. Then why are you stuck feeling like nothing is ever good enough?

Hi, I’m Sonja.

I am a licensed psychotherapist based in Philadelphia and I provide therapy to individuals across Pennsylvania & Massachusetts. I do this job because I believe in it - therapy can be a truly transformative space for those who are committed to the process. That being said, it’s not always easy.

I help by providing a solid ground to hold you upon while you bring your fears, vulnerabilities, and sometimes distressing thoughts & feelings to the space. If there’s one thing I can promise, it’s that you will not be judged by me. I care about this work and am genuinely invested in your growth. I will bring an accepting and down-to-earth presence while providing you with compassionate, evidence-based, and honest feedback.

The beauty of therapy is what unfolds in the dialogue between us: we will help you gain fresh perspectives, see yourself with greater confidence, and lighten the grasp of your thoughts and feelings. At the very least, I will be a person you can lean on during difficult or confusing times.

How I can help:

  • Relational psychodynamic therapy focuses on finding the root cause of emotional suffering. It is a form of depth psychology that looks at how the unconscious informs one’s current behavior. The “relational” component involves using the relationship between client & therapist to heal attachment wounds.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapy that works to increase psychological flexibility. “Acceptance” refers to relating more easily to oneself and one’s emotions. “Commitment” refers to taking specific, values-aligned actions towards living a more fulfilling life.

  • Mindfulness has been shown time and time again to be effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety & depression, improving emotional regulation, building self-compassion, and much more. It essentially works by changing the way one relates to their thoughts and feelings so they don’t feel as heavy or all-consuming. Additionally, it helps build the essential skill of present-moment awareness.
