Identity

Therapy for identity and existential issues

Something feels “off” lately. Maybe you’ve just undergone a life transition, or maybe your everyday life is no longer feeling satisfying to you. Maybe you’ve built exactly the life you thought you wanted on the outside, but somehow you still feel like something is missing – that piece that would help you feel fulfilled, connected, and confident. Instead, you’re feeling down or irritable.  You’re frustrated because the things that have typically helped you feel confident are no longer working, and you’re longing to figure out how to feel like yourself again.

From a young age, many of us construct and maintain an ideal version of ourselves, which can eventually lead to social success. But there comes a point in adulthood when this no longer feels like enough, and we begin to feel inadequate in our relationships (with others, and with ourselves).

In therapy, we will use psychodynamic interventions to identify core experiences that have shaped how you view yourself. We’ll use relational techniques to challenge some of your assumptions about what is “desirable” in the eyes of others. We will identify the inner qualities that have always been a part of you, and work to harness those strengths to build a sense of authenticity, confidence and connection in your everyday life.
